Common questions

I cannot see any of my files

The apps read only what you point them at; they do not search your device.

  • iPhone and iPad: open the Files app, go to On My iPhone, and drop your files into the NGXSP Audio or NGXSP Video folder. They appear straight away. You can also plug the device into a computer and drag files across.
  • Android: Settings → Library → Add folder.
  • Desktop: Settings → Library → Add folder.

My videos from the Photos app do not appear (iPhone, iPad)

Settings → Library → Photo library → Add. iOS asks only once: if you refused, go to iOS Settings → NGXSP Video → Photos.

My music from the Music app does not appear (iPhone, iPad)

Settings → Library → Music library → Add.

Only songs you own — imported CDs, purchases without protection — can be played. Apple Music subscription tracks are locked by Apple and play only in its own player: the app tells you how many are in that case.

The very first time a song plays, allow a few seconds: the file has to be copied before it can be read. Later plays are immediate.

My server is not found

Check that the device and the server are on the same network. On iPhone and iPad the first search asks for local network access — if you refused: iOS Settings → the app → Local Network.

You can always type the server address by hand: Settings → Servers.

Casting to a Chromecast stops

A Chromecast closes its player after a few minutes paused and returns to its backdrop. Just press play: the app starts the video again where you left it.

On a TV, the remote does nothing

The apps are driven with the arrows, OK to activate and Back to go back. The play, next and previous keys work too. If nothing responds, leave the app and open it again from the TV's home screen.

Report a problem

The code is public. If you have a GitLab account, an issue in the repository of the app concerned is the most effective — otherwise an email is fine.
